I’ve taught primary grades and worked with children as a music therapist throughout my whole career so have lots of experience with learning to read and all that it entails. I think your insights are clear and useful and well researched. I have been using this resource with my clients and find it easy to use. I love how things are broken down into chunks. I definitely recommend this to other therapist/teachers who are helping their clients to learn how to read.

As a homeschooling mom of a child on the autism spectrum, I very much appreciate this Dot-To-Dot Drumming resource. I like how easy it is to implement, that it works on several language, and literacy skills such as targeting prepositions and expanding sentences. Most of all I love how it has kept my son motivated, captured his attention and makes learning fun! Thanks for creating and sharing this wonderful resource Kathy!

I am a homeschooling mom with two kids, one on the autism spectrum. I am always looking for evidence based resources to build my kids literacy skills— especially tools that my son will gravitate to, such as music! Kathy’s music therapy curriculum is a perfect combination! I love how clear it is with explicit learning objectives and how engaging the songs are. We have enjoyed learning with Alphabet Stew and Chocolate too, and highly recommend!

Shari, thank you for your warm words. Coming from an experienced and respected music educator like yourself, this means a lot. I'm so glad that you'll be able to put it to use!

Kathy! This is fabulous! I love how you took an object that is easily accessible and affordable and turned it into an instrument! It replicates how the guiro originated -- I believe it was pre-Columbian people who used gourds and created notches in the side to create guiros. I'll use this song in April, around Earth Day, when we talk about reusing and recycling! The melody is very catchy... I can't place it yet, either. Nice job singing it with dynamic contrast. Thank you for recommending improvisation as part of the lesson, too. That is a component that can be, but shouldn't be, overlooked.

I can't place your song either. Sounds like a Rafi tune. Tom P. maybe.
